One of the most classic American salad dressing to date is the flavorful blue cheese dressing, which can actually be used on a number of dishes and appetizers. While there are different ways to whip up the dressing, the most popular uses buttermilk to bring out the creaminess.
Before getting into the steps to creation one must know the ingredients that make up the flavorful dressing. To start you will need 1 c. blue cheese and 2/3 c. buttermilk. From there you will include 2 tsp. champagne vinegar, 1 tsp. cracked black pepper and 1 tbsp. of Dijon mustard.
Now that you have the ingredients, you will start the process of making blue cheese dressing by placing the buttermilk, mustard, black pepper and half the cheese in a blender. After processing it for a few seconds you will then proceed to pour in the vinegar with the machine running.
Now that a majority of the ingredients have been poured into the blender, you will crumble the remaining cheese into a bowl. As soon as the mixture from the blender has been properly processed, you will pour the dressing over the crumbled cheese and stir it together.
Finally, taste the dressing to ensure it has a proper flavor and add salt or vinegar if necessary. Some opt to include lemon juice as well if the dressing is not tangy enough. Another option is to add more buttermilk if you are looking to thin out the blue cheese dressing. Finally, chill the dressing before including it on any salad, appetizer or entrée.
